On Saturday 14 November 2026, the Midlands Meander launches The Maker’s Route: Food & Drink Edition. This self-drive experience takes visitors behind the scenes with some of the region’s best-loved food and drink producers. It runs from 10:00 to 15:00.
Five artisans across four stops will open their doors for one day only. Each offers a once-off experience that goes beyond a normal visit, showing how their products are actually made. Visitors choose which experiences to attend and map their own route, whether that’s one stop or all four.
The four stops:
Bluebird Coffee Roastery (10:00, one session only):
an immersive roastery tour, a cupping table with world-class coffees, and an exclusive look behind the scenes at this multi-award-winning café and roastery.
Highgate Wine Estate (10:00 to 15:00, on the hour):
a 30-minute guided tour of the vineyards and cellar, covering how grapes are grown in the KZN climate and how the wine is made. The tour includes a taste of the Highgate Rosé and a Chardonnay tasting.
Abingdon Wine Estate and Indezi River Creamery (11:00 to 15:00, on the hour):
a tasting of fi ve award-winning Abingdon estate wines, paired with an Indezi cheese board curated to complement them.
Nottingham Road Brewery (10:00 to 14:00, on the hour):
a brewery and distillery tour, followed by tasters of the Nottingham Road beers and gin and tonics.
“People often tell us they miss the old Midlands Meander, where you could go inside the studios and meet the makers. This is an insider’s guide to the Midlands, led by the makers themselves. It’s a tasty day out for friends, couples and solo travellers looking to meet new people.” - Della Rosenberg, Digital marketing and Brand coordinator of the Midlands Meander.
Visitors can build a custom itinerary by adding individual experiences to their cart and paying once. Tickets start from R200 and are available on Quicket. The event is not open to under-18s. Spots are limited.
